Dear Sirs, My predecessors were married in Kilquade CHapel in 1864 and I was wondering if it still exists. On January 18th, 1864 Adam Connally was married to Doratha Devereux. Mathew was ADams father and Michael was Dorathas father. A child Mathew was born between 1864 and 1870. In 1870 they are in the state of Wisconsin in the USA. There are more than 150 relatives now... Thanks for any interest and assistance. John

I stumbled upon this site while looking for something about Avoca Weavers. My wife bought a coat from Avoca right by Bunratty castle this summer and was looking to get in touch with them to make further purchases I'd guess as she has received mahy compliments on the coat. A most interesting site you have here

Just to wish you every good wish for this "Year of the Father" 1999. Thanks Lorraine for your Christmas message. Dominic. P.S. Would you please ask the PP to get rid of that "Roman" before Catholic in your site. It is very hurtful to Catholics, to see the Church thus marginalised. Possibly the significance of using the word means little in Co Wicklow, but please consider the implications in the wider context of the universality of Christ's Church. Thanks, Lorraine, d@iname.com

Happy New Year to you all! We miss you very much, Fr. Alex. I always said the heart & soul of St. Mary's went with you. Simon is doing his Leaving Cert. this year, he is now 6'5" and most certainly would not fit into a soutanne. Jessica is doing Graphic Design/Art at Senior College, Ballyfermot. She hopes on her second try to enter NCAD. Art's her great love. Otherwise, Angela & I try to pull the strings together and make the ends meet. Trouble is someone keeps moving the ends. Best of luck to all. Very nicely laid out site and more important very informative. Don't forget to visit LOOK AT LUCAN at http://www.iol.ie/~geof or i.am/of.lucan Gerry.

Great page. I was wondering are there any genealogy pages in Wicklow Ireland. I'm looking for William Devoy born 1819 in Wicklow Ireland. Do any Devoy's attended this church now, I would be very interested in hear from them or any one connected with Devoy's. William Devoy married Mary Nichol either in Ireland or Canada, Mary was the daughter of William Nichol b. 1797 Ireland maybe Wicklow and Jane or Janet McIntyre born 1793 descendant from the Scottish Covenanters. If any one has information on the above names please e-mail Mary at wgazo@MNSi.net Thank you

I enjoyed reading the newsletters today and printed out the "new" version of "The Lord is my Shepherd" for use in our Lenten Renew 2000 faith-sharing groups at our parish, St. Mary of the Lake in the Town of Westport, Wisconsin. Our pastor is Father Dan Finnane and I am sure he will enjoy reading the newsletters that I printed out. He visits Ireland whenever he can but is American born.

Recently I have been watching a TV program on Public TV called Ballykissangel. In a tour guide from Wicklow this name appeared next to Avoca. Are these one and the same? I know this is not your field but thought I would ask along with a question about my great grandfather. He, William Doran, was born in Ireland and we think Wicklow in 1836. He came to the states in 1851. Is there any chance your records would have anything on him. He may have had a brother, James, about 4 years younger. We do not know the parents name. Thank you for whatever you can do. William Doran

Hello again, I received your reply from my first message to you. We had a grand time. We hope to return in a year or two. We stopped in the old church in Bray and the priest there sent us to the old cemetary -St Peter's just across a small bridge at the north end of the town. Observed many Byrne's buried there. If you come this way, be sure and let us know. We live about 3 miles from the BWI airport Baltimore /Washington International. Washington D.C. is about 40 minutes down the expressway. Hope things will continue to go well for Ireland. The economy appears to be doing good. We had a wild thought about looking for a house that we could purchase. I understand that the housing market has gone through the roof. Prices are as high as they are in the States. Take care. Have a good summer.

My great great grandfather was born in the Vale of Avoca January 16, 1800. His daughter, Mary, was born there in March of 1832. She related playing dolls on the riverbank and talking to a "nice gentleman" who was writing poetry. Moore? If they lived at the Meeting of the Waters, which would have been their parish church and does it still stand? Would the baptimal and marriage records still be there and if not, where can I look for them? I got this far by myself and I'd like to finish it when we visit. Can you help? In any event we'll see you in August. And looking forward to it!

We had a lovely day at Knock last Saturday, and Cardinal Daly delivered a most inspiring homily.

On Sunday 18th July our pilgrimage to OUR LADY'S ISLAND takes place. Bishop Comiskey will be there and hopefully the weather will be fine for our procession around the island.

Thanks for the publicity you give us on your website for these two pilgrimages.

Dominic.

Your site was also helpful to me as I have been searching my family roots, my gg grandparents are from County Sligo and Atrim (i think i spelled it wrong) I will pray for all of you at our Renew 2000 faith sharing on Wednesday. Looks like a great parish. We worship at the nearby Villanova University parish here in Philadelphia 'burbs in the States. Tho I'm a Yank, also have Irish citizenship through my grandparents. Descended from two old Mayo, Anglo-Irish families - the Elwoods and the Ormsbys - from around Cong and Ballinrobe. All the best to you, In Xto!

Hello, my great-grandfather's sister was Elizabeth Darcy Mulligan. I am trying to locate my cousins. I have a photo of them but no names. Her address in the 1940's was Pond Park Kevin St. Tinahely. My great-grandfather and his brother both came to Morrow Ohio. We are still close to our cousins here and I figured we had cousins just as close in Tinahely so I would try to contact them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Mary Callahan, 928 Dry Valley Ct. Villa Hills, Ky, 41017, USA

Hello there!

I was in Wicklow (Arklow) less than two weeks ago, tramping through surrounding graveyards, including St. Patrick's and Avoca. I'm obsessed with genealogy, but use it as an excuse to get to Ireland every year....my favorite place in the world! Any Weadicks out there?? Love your site, too.

Hi again from Mooroopna. We are a town of about 7000 pop. Some 185 Km north of Melbourne. Largely a irrigation area growing stone fruits ( you may know of our local " Ardmona" brand) otherwise dairying and dry land cropping. We have a Catholic parish of St Mary's, ably lead by Fr Peter Quinn. Hope this is of interest. Bye for now.

Hello There; My name is Donna and I would like to ask for prayers for our Beloved Bishop Patrick Cooney, he just had surgery and is in the recovery stages. Bishop Patrick lives in Gaylord Mich, in the U.S. He was to Ireland once for he told me about it. You see we have little towns here, and I'm trying to reach areas where lots of people live, for your prayers for him. He brought back love to our area, that was terrible before he came. Down the road in Religious History He'll be remembered. You see he loves all people. The work he did to build back this area , would take pages. We would appreciate you contacting other people for us to pray for him. He went through so much here. God Bless you, remember him. Donna Seeley

I have just read your story about Pedro for this week. Thank you. I always need to remember to take time out to really enjoy what the Lord has truly provided for us, for He has been truly generous and kind in all ways. It has been a pleasure visiting your site especially because I watch Ballykissangel every week and want so much to visit there some day. My heritage is Irish but it goes back many generations. (My great great great grandparents left Ireland during the potato famine.) Ballykissangel has struck a chord in my heart for Ireland and I am planning on visiting someday when I have saved up enough to go. God bless you all. Sincerely, Susan Norman susannorman@juno.com

PS. Do you have anyone in your community that would like to email/ penpal with me? I can be reached at susannorman@juno.com and would love to know more about your area. Thank you.

St Joseph's Church By Donna Seeley C-6-12- Dear God, I love St Joseph, 2000 He's oh so dear to me. From the time Jesus walked on earth, To our Blessed Virgin Mary. He protected the Holy Family, He was troubled at the start. Intil an Angel talked to Jospeh, Then he knew with all his heart. That baby Jesus came from God, Joseph was an honorable man. The path he took there on was too, Please God in that difficult land..

Beautiful Ireland Oh Ireland, Oh Ireland, this song , I sing of thee. To your beautiful churches, then the hills of such green. for surly God has blessed you. though troubles hit your land, Dear God, through grace I ask you, Oh, please spare Ireland. someday it will all be peaceful, Then your tears will no longer , Fall. For God has called me to you, and my teardrops are the call. Someday your little children, will not have to fear. For Ireland with all her beauty, God's hand will hold dear.

Fr Alex Our family had the pleasure of visiting the charming village (and church) of Ballyk.. that is, Avoca last year, but we failed to record the church's name in our travel diary. That has now been rectified! Many thanks for providing this information site and (if you see them) please pass on our good wishes to Frs Peter, Aiden and 'Mac' (and all at Fitzgerald's - that Guinness was 'heavenly'), from some Aussie (TV) fans.

Thank you for your site, I have found it interesting, especially the Church of SS Mary & Patrick at Avoca. I am trying to find out where my family came from and have established that my grandfather was baptised at the Avoca church in 1880 and that my great grandfather was living at Templelusk at the time. I am hoping to find out more details and sites like yours are great for local information. Thank you and best wishes.

My grandfather came from County Cavan, Ireland, to New York City, USA some time durint the Great Irish Famine. He lived in The Bronx, New York City, married (either in NYC or Ireland) one Katherine Purcell, and together they had eight children. My father was one of those children. His name was James Cumiskey, but his sisters always called him Seamus.

I have no records of my grandfather or grandmother on my father's side of the family, and as I am in my seventies, I am anxious to know who they were there in beautiful Eire.

Thank you.

I am trying to contact, by phone, an aunt of mine [ Hetty Kenny] who lives near or in Avoca. The address I have is Ballyganon [!], Avoca.Unfortunately I have had no luck with the phone books on the net. Can anyone tell me if this is a town near Avoca or perhaps the name of a residence. Thanking you for any help given. Mick.S

P.s: Moryua is an Aboriginal word meaning " place where the black swans gather" and it is a fantastic sight walking along the river watching these animals flock together.

I am a decendent and son of Thomas W. Millar. He was born in Wicklow on 30 May 1891. His father was John Millar born in 1855. My grandfather married Mary Ann Foulkes at St. Patricks church in Wicklow on 6 June 1890. My father was born on 30 May 1891. He had two brothers Dennis and John born in 1894 and 1897 also in Wicklow. My brother went to Ireland this past April to trace back our heritage. What he was able to gather was incredibale. Our history goes back to 1805 when John Wall married Mary Hendrick on 21 January 1833. My father was with Irish Lights and a seaman. Stories about the men of Wicklow and their courage of going to sea to help others in distress. I would be very proud to have my name in your guest book. I continue to search for information going back beyond my grandfathers birth in 1855 and John Wall in 1805. If anyone has informaion please have them contact me at my web page or by mail at 1204 Avrum Drive, Toms River, New Jersey 08753 USA. If possible could send information about St. Patricks Church. I attend two parishs in New Jersey, St. Josephs and have an Irish pastor Msgr. Sean Flynn and in northern New Jersey in Vernon Township St. Francis De Salles and the pastor is Msgr. John Boland who is from Galway. On St. Patricks day Msgr. Flynn says the mass in gaelic. I am so proud of my Irish heritage and especially the County of Wicklow. God be with you.

Sincerely

John F. Millar

Doing Genealogy research for family in Leinster, Ireland in 1400, 1500, 1600..........can you assist me in where to start to track down this Roman Catholic Family? The family was Bryan MacDonnel/MacDonald/McDonald and Bryan and his family left for New Castle, Deleware in 1681. I don't know where they lived but I DO know they were Roman Catholic.

ANY ASSISTANCE/LEADS WILL BE APPRECIATED.

Just ran across your website. We visited your beautiful country several years ago. It was a wonderful trip. We stayed one night in Arklow and were fortunate to watch your Feast of Corpus Christi processional. In fact, we still exchange Christmas and St. Patrick's Day cards with Mick O'Toole who lives in Arklow. We met him that evening and had a delightful chat with him. Our best wishes to all of your parish members. Pat & Fred Goplin

Hello everyone! I am fascinated with Ireland in general and Avoca in particular. I would love to visit in the not too distant future and may eventually relocate there. I would like to chat with some people from Avoca or the surrounding towns in Wicklow County to learn all I can about this beautiful area. Please send me an e-mail. I hope to hear from you soon!

I am researching my ancestrey in Wicklow. My family attended St. Patricks Church in Wicklow Town between 1800 and 1931. My grandfather John Millar married Mary Ann Foulkes on 6 June 1890 in St. Patricks. Witness to the weeding was my great grandfather Thomas and Patrick Foulkes. Maybe in Church records there might contain information about my greatfather as a parishiner and also Patrick Foulkes. Names and dates would be be of great help. Our search started in early 2000. My brother Thomas went to Wicklow with surprise was able to contact a cousin who informed of his cousin in England was looking for us. Imagine this, we are all in our sixties and never met. My cousin Tony Miller has been researching the Millar/Miller name in Wicklow for a number of years. It would be wonderful if at the records in St. Patricks parish could provide further information. We are so proud of our heritage and being decendents of family from Wicklow Town, Wicklow. my Ireland email is www.jackmillar@wicklow.com and my USA email is bv2000@quixnet.net. Thank You

God Bless You

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

I just wanted to say it's great that you have a webpage on your parish. I am on Spring Break at a new Catholic Liberal Arts College in Michigan and was just surfing the net. I hope to go to Ireland someday... maybe I will have the chance to visit your parish. I have a few friends from Dublin, and my ancestors in Canada come from Ireland.

God Bless You all in this Lenten Season,

I visited your church twice when bringing tours to Ireland. The first time, they were filming Bally K so we couldn't go in but last year we went inside. The t.v. screen doesn't do it justice. It's a beautiful structure. The floor was unique! I am saddened to learn that Bally K is cancelled. However, the first episodes were still the best. Do any of the actors live in Avoca? Your Woolen Mill is well worth a visit.

In August I'll return to Ireland for my fifth visit and my husband's second. The Irish always make me feel so welcome....Also I'm eagerly seeking information on my mother's grandparents: Patrick H. Monaghan was born approx. 1817 in County Tyrone (possibly from the civil parish of Clogher, since my mother was told they came from "Clare," which sounds similar). He moved to the United States approx. 1838, worked as a blacksmith in Baltimore, MD, where he died Jan. 30, 1898. He married Roseanna (Rose Anna, Rose A.) Hughes May 6, 1860, in Washington, D.C. She had possibly been born in County Clare. Roseanna died in Baltimore Dec. 17, 1867. Patrick and Roseanna had three children, John Thomas (1862-1921), James P. (b. 1864) and Margaret Rose (1867-1871). John Thomas Monaghan married Laura Jane Reitz (Rites) in 1885. They had 10 children; the 8th child was my mother, Margaret Monaghan Pelland, who died in 1999 at the age 0f 97 and cherished her Irish ancestry, as I do. I would be most grateful for any information or suggestions on continuing the search for my Monaghan/Hughes ancestors and for living descendants that I could meet or at least write to. Seeing this website is giving me renewed incentive. How I would love to meet an Irish relative this summer in Ireland! Thank you for any help. Sincerely, Laurie Way
