Monday is our day of Prayer and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament all day
from after Mass and will conclude with Mass at 7.30p.m.
DID YOU KNOW?
Poverty and inequality are the main causes of hunger, not shortage of food.
People in many countries starve in spite of food being available because they
do not have the resources (a job, land, tools or money) to buy or grow food.
Almost 80% of malnourished children in the developing world live in countries
with food surpluses.
A quarter of the world’s population (one and a half billion) people are living on
less than a dollar a day. In 1820 the difference between the richest and poorest
countries was a ratio of about three to one. By 1960, 20% of the world’s richest
people had 30 times the incomes of the poorest 20%, while in 1997 that had
risen to 74 times.
A computer costs one month’s salary for the average Irish person, compared
to eight years income for the average Bangladeshi. A quarter of the world’s
countries still do not have one telephone per 100 people.
Eleven million children under five die each year from hunger or hunger related
diseases. Yet the cost of eradicating extreme poverty from the globe is 1% of
global income. About 130 million children receive no primary schooling. Yet it
would cost just an additional six billion dollars annually to supply basic education
for all children in the developing world currently denied this right.
The world’s three richest billionaires have more wealth than the combined
wealth of the 48 least developed countries and their 600 million people.
Poverty does not always have to be with us. Extreme poverty can be eradicated
from the globe within the next two decades. It would cost only an extra
eighty billion dollars annually to provide all basic needs to the world’s people
who are now without health, education, safe water, sanitation and housing.

PRAYER SERVICE During this second week of Lent we reflect on The Transfiguration of Jesus. In the presence of his three disciples Jesus was revealed in all his glory as the Son of God. The Gospel passage is Matthew 17:1-9. Reflection:
As
Christians we are given a share in the glory of God since our Baptism. In
that sacrament the image of Christ was imprinted on us. In the presence of
others we are expected to behave like Jesus. Our actions should reflect his
person if we are truly to be Christian. Sometimes however we do not show
that image. There are also times when we fail to recognise his image in
others. May this week of Lent be a time for us to recognise Christ more and
behave in his image. PRAYERS
Together we pray – Our Father, Hail Mary or a Decade of the Rosary. RESOLUTION FOR THE WEEK To be more loving to those around us and more caring to those in need.THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK To forgive is to set a prisoner free and to discover that the prisoner is ME. The place to be happy is HERE. The time to be happy is NOW. The way to be happy is to make others so. Learning is like rowing upstream; not to advance is to drop back. Love is God’s shadow in our universe. Today’s opportunities erase yesterday’s failures. There’s no sorrow heaven can’t heal. God has suffered from too many attempts to define the undefinable. Each Christian needs a half an hour of prayer each day, except when we are busy, then we need an hour. Don’t tell me that worry doesn’t do any good. I know better. The things I worry about never happen. CHURCH CLEANERSChurch Cleaners this week are Group B.
