  REMEMBERING OUR MOTHERS

As we pause on the path of the year

To pay honour and worshipful tribute

To the Mother our hearts hold dear.

For whether here or in heaven,

Her love is our haven and guide,

For always the memory of Mother

Is a beacon light shining inside.

Time cannot destroy her memory

And years can never erase

The tenderness and the beauty

Of the love in a Mother’s face.

And, when we think of our Mother,

We draw nearer to God above,

For only God in his greatness

Could fashion a Mother’s love.

MOTHERHOOD

The dearest gifts that heaven holds,

The very finest too,

Were made into one pattern

That was perfect, sweet and true.

The angels smiled, well pleased and said:

‘Compared to all the others,

This pattern is so wonderful

Let’s use it just for Mothers!’

And through the years, a Mother

Has been all that’s sweet and good

For there’s a bit of God and love,

In all true Motherhood.

HOLY WEEK RETREAT

This will be conducted by Fr. Charles Cross, a Passionist from Mount Argus. He will preach at Masses for Palm Sunday and conduct a Retreat each morning and evening on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Holy Week. While it is early days yet please make a special effort to participate. More details later.

LEGION OF MARY

It is regretted that the Acies, the only public Church function of the Legion of Mary, has been postponed because of the Foot and Mouth emergency.

APPRECIATION

Sincere thanks to all who made our St. Patrick’s Day Liturgies so special and for the many favourable comments from both our own and our visitors. Together with our Choir and Servers a special word to our ‘extras’ – Traditional Players Catriona O’Brien, Patricia Kavanagh and Cliona Breen, our Dancer Claire De Courcy, our Fiddle Player Eamon O’Brien and to the Arklow Pipe Band

Indeed many ‘eyes were smiling’ in Templerainey. We look forward to having you all again and more often perhaps. While people may have been dispirited over the parades and the weather their spirits were indeed lifted as they left the Church. Thanks also to the many favourable and supportive comments regarding my article last weekend relating specifically to the Government absence from the country and the ASTI strike. There is more I could say but in the hope of a settlement I will for the moment ‘hold my breath to cool my porridge’. I am however considering signing up for supervision - £60 a day, not bad!

EASTER BAPTISMS

Parents with children for Baptism are asked to consider having their child baptised at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night. This is a special occasion and it was in the early Church the only time each year when Baptism was administered.

EXPOSITION

Please note that there will not be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the second Monday of April. This will be Monday of Holy Week when our emphasis will be on Adoration on Holy Thursday night. It will also be one of our Retreat Days.

JUST A THOUGHT

All marriages are perfect, it’s the living together that’s the problem.

Patience is Power. With time and patience the mulberry leaf becomes silk.

Christianity is a battle, not a dream.

All that we send into the lives of others comes back into our own.

God is much more anxious to communicate with us than we are to listen.

PRAYER SERVICE

During this fourth week of Lent we reflect on ‘repentance’, turning back to God. To help us we use the story of Sunday’s Gospel – The Prodigal Son. The Gospel passage is Luke 15:1-3, 11-32.

Reflection

Repentance is two sided – the one who repents and the one who forgives. In the story of the Prodigal Son the emphasis is not just on the Son who returns but the Father who welcomes him back. So too in our human relationships there are two sides. This week we might reflect on where do I stand in my relationship with God and others? Am I in need of forgiveness and willing also forgive. What efforts am I making during Lent to put this into practice?

Prayers

  1. For the courage to seek forgiveness from God and others and the willingness to forgive in return. Lord Hear Us.
  1. For those who are estranged from God. May the forgiving Father reach out and draw them to himself this Lent. Lord Hear Us.
  1. For peace in all troubled hearts and homes within our community. May we all be builders of peace and reconciliation. Lord Hear Us.
  1. For our own family needs and intentions at this time. Lord Hear Us.
Together we pray – Our father, Hail Mary or a Decade of the Rosary.

RESOLUTION FOR THE WEEK

To be more understanding and forgiving to others and willing to say sorry.

HOW MUCH

At the close of life the question is-

Not how much you have got, but how much you have given.

Not how much you have won, but how much you have done.

Not how much you have saved, but how much you have sacrificed.

Now how much you were honoured, but how much you have loved and served.

The best preparation for tomorrow is to do today’s work superbly well.

CHURCH CLEANERS

Church Cleaners this week are Group D.
